| After
a head on collision with another dog, it was diagnosed by the
vet that Tia, a 4 year old, German Shepherd, had Hip Dysplasia
which had been disguised by the excellent muscle tone she had
built up through regular agility competitions and practice.
As Tia was instructed to rest, some of her muscles began to
waste and loose their tone and functionality, so aggravating
the Hip Dysplasia and secondary osteo arthritis. Gill Hinton,
Tia’s owner decided to try massage therapy after Tia began
bunny hopping on her back limbs, as well as becoming incredibly
stiff and depressed to the extent she was no longer interested
in her surrounding environment, going for walks or even playing
with the other family dogs. As a result of the lack of exercise,
Tia had also begun to put on weight which was aggravating her
condition.
After just on treatment, Tia’s mobility increased tremendously.
Her stiff gait became smoother and she was able to stride properly;
her hunched shoulders began to relax which were overcompensating
for the pain in her pelvic region, she was able for the first
time in months to lift her back paws over the doo rstep
to get into the house, her depression lifted and she began showing
a marked interest in going for off the lead walks and playing
with the other dogs. Most importantly, Tia’s regained
mobility means she is able to exercise which has helped her
to loose considerable weight, so helping to relieve the pressure
on her hips and weight bearing front limbs.
Gill Hinton,
Tia’s owner said:
“I have been amazed at the difference in Tia following
Natalie’s treatment. Watching my agility dog struggling
to get out of her bed and dragging her paws over the kitchen
step was unbelievably devastating. From t he
first treatment, Tia’s has shown amazing results; she
has lost her stiffness, has a smoother gait and is now playing
with the other dogs doing what dogs do. She has regained her
enthusiasm on going for walks and loves to run (yes run!) with
the rest of her ‘pack’. Being able to actually go
for walks has helped her to loose weight which in turn is helping
her cope with the condition better and her depression has lifted.
I cannot
thank Natalie enough for her hard work and determination as
we now have a happy, mobile dog eagerly charging out the front
door instead of struggling to clear the step! “
