Olly
was involved in a road traffic accident when he was just 4 months
old, resulting in a fracture to his left pubis which has left
him with a slight limp on
his left back leg and an inability to stretch out his back legs
together. Now 10 months old, Olly was showing signs of neurotic
behaviour which manifests itself in mounting visitors to the
house, excessive barking at other dogs and persistent jumping
up. Olly also had trouble in relaxing and staying focused enough
to learn basic commands such as ‘Sit’. Nicola Davies,
Olly’s owner decided to see if massage therapy would help.
“Olly
is a very ‘bouncy’ dog to say the least”,
says Nicola “he is always on the go. After his first session
of massage therapy on the Friday, Olly was incredibly relaxed
all throughout Saturday and Sunday to the point where he didn’t
even pester to go out for his regular 2 hour walk! “
Nicola said, “I was really amazed by how Olly reacted
to massage therapy. I didn’t think Natalie would be able
to get him to settle down because of all that puppy energy,
but sure enough he relaxed and allowed her to massage him, even
letting her touch the areas that are sensitive to him like his
back left leg. After the first session, unbelievably, Olly stopped
mounting visitors to the house, he stopped jumping up and by
the following Friday I had taught him Sit, Stay, Come and Lie
Down!”
After 3 sessions Olly had stopped limping and is now stretching
out both is back legs naturally.
“I
was wary that Olly wouldn’t allow Natalie to touch him,
but instinctively he seemed
to know that she was there to help him. Being able to sit in
(and be encouraged to do so) and watch the massage process was
great; seeing how Natalie communicated with Olly and how he
responded to her really was something quite amazing to watch.
Seeing him trot naturally without limping and stretch out his
back legs fully to make an ‘Olly Rug’ really is
fantastic”
